Pink Brecciated Mookaite Jasper

Just enough to do something with. This material seems opalized and the matrix is arkose (sandy-grainy) but ultra glassine.

That is a sweet piece to play with.  The color striations are gorgeous.

Mookite is a radiolarian quartz which can change to opal if it is in contact with water. Mookite will cause immense amounts of bubbling and frothing if a lot of water is p[oured on it when it is very dry acting exactly like a hydrophane opal.t is probably an opal -quartz mix.

Thanks for the knowledge! It feels and looks very similar structurally to the diagenetic meta-cherts I find in NW Montana that precipitated from bacterial mats. Low grade Opal-CT? Or just half-baked? Y'all I've finally made the transition to an interest in silicates beyond the world of agates and that rabbit hole goes deeeep.
