Huge Geode
« on: April 06, 2017, 01:51:18 PM »

Our club is raffling this off at our show this weekend. It is15 inches across, 14 inches tall, and 10 inches deep. It weighs 56 pounds!
It looks like it could be from Woodbury, TN.

It is particularly nice but in Oregon  it would not be big. It seems a bit dense for it's size , are geodes from that  locality known to hve metal in them ? Maybe magnesium?

Some on a fluorescent mineral FaceBook page are saying that calcite wouldn't fluoresce green. Chalcedony would though. They've seen chalcedony geodes similar to this one come from Northern Mexico. I've learned that chalcedony isn't always in nice, smooth, layers. The green fluorescence in LW and SW would be from uranium.
