« on: February 03, 2018, 08:27:25 AM »

Q series #1 Ocean Breeze Jasper 4", very cool pattern in this one, kinda a dark stone with what  I believe is hematite veins. (someone help me out here)
This is the first sphere of about 40 from the material from quartzite, I hope I don't bore you guys to death with quartzite spheres!

Nice job....   I have about 3 tons of Ocean Breeze Jasper in my yard. This material is Ocean Bedrock that got subducted and came up in western Oregon. It is full of hematite and has a lot of pyrite on the surface in the open seams. It makes great cabochons and takes a great polish.
This is a jasper that came up as an intrusion in a huge area of basalt. From what I can see the vein made it almost to the surface. It is generally about 20 feet wide and has been traced down to 100 feet at this point.
Ocean Breeze jasper is mined on private property and one person has obtained exclusive rights to this material. I was able to go with Jim and hand pick my jasper last year. The colors are generally dark but there is pure white quartz veins up to 8 inches thick in small pockets. There is also bright reds, orange and a lot of green jasper. A lot of the jasper is highly brecciated but stable. It cuts very easy and is similar to good Malachite to cut and polish.

This piece is totally different than the other material I picked up the same day, I have two more pieces that are multi colored (green, orange, etc.) that the dealer gave to me to make him spheres. We'll see!!
They look pretty good to me.

Now that's cool.  The black lines really make it unusual.

Interesting colors and patterns.  Love those prominent healed fractures.

Fossil 55; thanks for the background on this deposit; that adds a lot of interest to the rock.
