I'm UK based, but my sister lives on the BC coast. Off to visit next week... I probably won't have time this visit (seems to be about 7 hours to southern Fraser river sites). But still, maybe next time - anyone have an experiences? best times of year etc?

Ha, completely failed to notice the rockhounding sub forum.

Winter is normally out except for locals who are very aware of the fluctuating water conditions. Rivers here are at their lowest (if they have no dams) in August but by that time the areas may be quite picked over. A nice period exists in the beginning of spring when the water levels have gone down because the rainy season is waning but the snowmelt has not started in earnest. Snowmelt here is a big issue at least through June and people die every year because they underestimate the force and volume of the snowmelt. If you are coming a long way August is a sure bet but most years the air quality is mixed at best due to the fact you are then deep within fire season.Good luck.

Thanks... My sister's in-laws live in Vancouver, so I might actually have a chance of going out from there. Less than 2 hours drive to Hope... Though it looks like they really don't like people parking near the river (the internet says because it's a popular spot to get salmon later in the year).

Gave up on the prospecting because time and hassle... did visit green mountain jade’s warehouse in Surrey near Vancouver though. Was quite good (I am not linked to them in any way!) will do a separate post some time. Bought a nice 8.5kg chunk.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180720/66f24578d1ef5b18f9bff9769c28f25d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180720/146ce8e74c071857ac6246db6a1e74f7.jpg)
