Dendritic Silver Lace Onyx
« on: December 17, 2018, 06:57:59 AM »

Slabbed this rock thinking it was Silver Lace by the look of the rind. Came out like this, and neither one of us here have seen any like it. Any info or suggestions about what it's called or where it might be from would be greatly appreciated.

To me it looks like normal Calico Silver Lace.  End seams often had that chaotic type of pattern.

Thanks, Steve.

Someone else told us about buying some from an older hound who'd collected it. He said the same thing about how it would transition into material with more honey-colored (and other) areas in it.

Robin and I both like it a lot, but didn't remember seeing it before. It's much more interesting than the typical stuff.

Here's a piece I thought I'd salvage after it fell off during slabbing. It's 54x34, but will get resized due to the crack.

Concur with silver lace onyx out of Calico hills.  I have some slabs that also contain that nice yellow calcite within the black dendrites.

It's humbling to find an example of a type of rough that's been around forever that I've never seen. The only silver lace I've ever had was only plain ol' black lines... .
