I can see how the Nephrite would be a challenge for that type of carving.  Interesting that the Tiger's Eye was the same way.

I love love love the black opal- I could bathe in those colors!!!!!!!!!!!!  Do you have a good source for this material?

Was given the opal by a friend in England (Anna O'Neill), will have to ask her for her supplier.
The Tiger eye is fine overall, its just that I most likely aligned the fibers wrong.  :icon_tongue:

Wampidy: Nothing lost yet! Every break-away was counteracted by realignments, so while it does not look perfect, its still useful.  :DRUNKS:

Beautiful work.

Thank you. Practice will get you there too. Plus if you can overcome my impatience, and keep things simple, you will get much further than me.  :icon_tongue: :icon_sunny:

The dragons are getting closer to the finish-line. Messed up the back of the Indonesian wood while incorporating Bollo-style holes in the back.
Got lucky on the Sodalite and black jade and they are ready to wear, will try the Wood, Tiger eye, and the green Jade this weekend again. Then its on to polish.

The Black Jade is the farthest ahead:

Thanks for bearing with me on this rather long road, Kurt

Thank you. Yep I'm partial to frills. They re easy to make, but a pain to sand and polish.
With every project, I promise myself not to to do them, only to end up doing exactly that. :) :)

At 5 x 3 cm, details are not that elaborate. I hope that I can do something like that in a few years at half size.

The sodalite is done, the opal is on the way to Australia for a competition. The Indonesian piece needed a silver insert in the back due to repeated breakouts and had no balance. I'm still thinking on how to finish the jade one, as its just a bit off balance. Could either put a metal insert, or drill another hole next to the horns (but not sure if I want to risk that).

I would mount it with a simple glue on bail so that way you have no need to drill.
