I enjoy collecting stones & showing them in the form of pendents-this opal was bought several years ago & is a very nice cut to view in the light-14cts mounted in 18kt. yellow gold. It does show every color depending how the stone is lit, the frame was formed from a single wire-steve...

Nice stone and setting.
Opal would have to be the top of all lapidary stones, diamond has nothing on it.

Love this. beautiful

That one definitely deserved the 18k treatment. That's top-shelf opal anywhere in the world!
Great post also because it's crystal opal. So many people think only black opal is found at Lightning Ridge. Have had people at shows argue that a particular opal can't be from there because "it isn't black".
Thanks for giving us a chance to see it!

I give credit as always to my goldsmith, John Dixon of Md. He works with me on all my pendents which are basically my stones set in gold to show the stone only, no surround stones, maybe a little fancy in the gold work but thats it-steve... :hello: :hello: :occasion14:

Beautiful crystal. Love the fire pattern on it.

Lightning Ridge Has some of the best crystal opal in the world and its usually very stable more so than the semi black. Some of the white opal that I get out of the Grawin field in LR can rival any Coober Pedy. One of my guys just found a thick seam this spring about 1.5inch thick by 12"by 8" with bright green gold gem color. You hardly get any black opal out of the Ridge most of what you get is everything but. Thats why the price for it is so high followed by crystal.
Nice stone by the way
