Another wood box with stone
« on: May 14, 2020, 07:01:52 AM »

Having retired from my marine surveying business I have spent a fair amount of time in my shop focused on wood projects rather than my pendants. This is a box made entirely of canary wood.  This  hardwood grows in South American  from Panama to  Southern Brazil. It is a non-endangered  species.  Known for its intense  yellow/red colors when freshly cut, the wood naturally desaturates  as it ages to lighter browns while still maintaining its contrasts.

There are blue pau abalone accents on the removable trays and a piece of gary green jasper (presently being called caldera jasper by the mine owner). The box is about 16" x 7 3/4" x 6 1/4" in height.
The box was built to be a jewelry box however I made the trays removable, such as the ring tray, in the event there was another purpose like a stash box or urn.

Very nicely done.  Certainly doing tiny box joints has a whole set of dangers that aren't experienced in doing larger work.  Super clean, and the stone handle and inlay is really special.

I am curious...I'll go take a look at it tonihgt, but I'll have to wait until next month, (about July the 8th) to purchase anything, I've had to put myself on a budget to control my spending. I just love to shop online
