Hello from El Dorado County, CA
« on: March 10, 2018, 09:37:15 AM »

Hi everyone,  I live in Diamond Springs, California, and I have been exploring Nevada, where I am finding some cool stuff.  I have always been a digger and a rock lover.  I have already learned a lot from the forums here and I have plenty of questions.  I really love the cabochon contest and I hope to enter it someday.  The picture is of my recent find in the field.  The white stuff isn't frozen water.  If anybody has ever seen the same kind of thing, I would like to hear about it

Welcome the forum, Newton!  Lots of knowledgeable folks here to answer your questions.  I have never seen anything like in your picture.  Where was this taken?

I found it in Nevada, west of Fallon.  It is agate that is weathering out of volcanic tuff.  We are calling it agate because it often displays a snakeskin surface.   It could be called yellow chalcedony.  There is a bigger story developing about this rock.  I wonder if I should start another thread in another topic.  The picture this time is of a different area a few hundred feet from the other.
