Stone cutting season
« on: November 11, 2017, 06:45:29 PM »

Rhodingite. The black is quartz colored by the country rock which in this case was black phyllite. The white is grossular garnet but is quite soft because some of the silica was leached from it. The green is chrome diopside. 55 mm, 4 mm hole

Another beauty by the Bead Master!  Glad you'll be posting more pictures again.  Been missing seeing your creations.

The kiln in the ceramic studio I have been working in is on the fritz so I decided to get back to stones for the winter until my kiln is done then I need to learn to mix the passions better.

I've been missing seeing your bead creations too.  The two you posted today are out of the park.  The icing on the cake is that you're able to identify all the separate minerals in those rocks with such precision.

Yes after 35 years of sticking my head in the University of Washington natural sciences library. My wife is a professor at the uw and I have borrowing privileges from there and a consortium of universities so eventually I can usually get to the bottom of a problem.
