A tumbler and jewelry shot?
« on: July 04, 2016, 10:12:12 AM »

Not sure this is the right place for this, it should probably be over in tumbling, anyway. Do any of you use a tumbler and jewelry shot to harden and clean up you wraps? If so where did you get your shot from?

I don't wire wrap but I do tumble metal. Don't buy anything but stainless steel shot; the other rusts too quickly. I have bought from both Rio Grande https://www.riogrande.com/Product/Stainless-Steel-Shot-Mixed/339034 and Sante Fe Jewelers Supply https://www.sfjssantafe.com/items.php?Gid=374&ItemSet=Tumbling+Media&DepId=tools. As you can see, there's a considerable difference in price.

Use burnishing compound with it. And if you want it to last, pour it out when you're done in one of those big sieves and rinse it with really hot water, spread then out on a towel and let them dry. I've had the same shot for over ten years with no problems; even stainless can rust.

If I were you, I'd throw in a scrap piece of whatever stone you're going to tumble as a test piece to make sure you don't damage your stone.
