Supplier for 6-inch Foam-Backed Disks?
« on: April 01, 2018, 12:32:37 PM »

Hi, I used to be able to find sanding/polishing disks like the ones below but they seem to have disappeared from supplier catalogs I have.  Does anyone know of a source?

The ones illustrated are Masonite with about a quarter-inch of foam rubber topped with a peel-off adhesive for attaching sanding and polishing disks.  They're drilled with a 1/2-inch center hole.  They also used to be available with light aluminum backing instead of Masonite.

I'd make my own but don't have the proper machinery or the space to put it in.

Hi Rick,

The closest I can find to what I think you're looking for is a composition disc here:  http://www.amlap.com/alw/cabsupp.html

Graves sells them, too, but they're $1.45 more at Graves and we know about their problems getting product sent out.

Vince and I use the plastic backing discs from Hi-Tech (or Kingsley) and we use feathering glue to stick the rubber pads on them to use with PSA backed diamond discs.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Robin, the ones from Amlap look like they'll work for me, though I'm not all that crazy about using feathering adhesive.  I always seem to get more on me than on the lap

I don't know what's happened to Graves.  They used to be a reliable supply company but in the past few years they've really gone downhill.  Too bad.  I was going to buy one of their faceting machines but the company's delivery issues and undependability convinced me otherwise.

:toothy12:  I know all about feathering disc adhesive!  Using those long wooden shish kabob sticks to do the spreading helps.

Good tip!  I just happen to have a bundle of those sticks.  The longer the better when it comes to feathering glue!
