Biotite: Variations on a Theme.
« on: May 01, 2022, 10:34:17 AM »

Chemistry has always been a hole in the floor for me to break myself in. Since getting into these Precambrian metasediments biotite and other aluminosilicates have been increasingly confusing. Is there anyone around who has layman's terms I can superimpose over all the equation-y confusion. Annite, phlogopite and illite- oh, my!

There are parts of geology that have low returns for effort expended  and metamorphic chemistry is one of those areas. Lots of incomprehensible graphs available which for even a geologically educated amateur have limited explanatory uses.

That's becoming quickly evident on many fronts. Thank you for reaffirming my loudly sneaking suspicions.

On a happier note, your work is an inspiration. As I'm feeling my way into the world of hand shaping and hole making, your eye for shape and rough has kept me pushing myself to become cleaner and more patient. Thank you for what you do.
