For those of you not familiar with SoCal one of our local jaspers is called Lavic Siding after the former small old West town of Lavic. It was even features on a Travel Channel show once. It has wonderfully vivid reds, oranges and yellows with occasional green and purple. The picture does not capture the depth that the clear quartz areas bring to the stone.

Really vibrant color! It looks like there's a texture difference between the color and the quartz. Is it difficult to bring to a polish?

Not at all.  what you are seeing is the limitation of the photographer :)  in person it has an even smooth glass finish.  You are seeing down into some of the clear quartz areas.

Another thing that might be throwing off the eye is that a lot of Lavic Jasper and Cady Mtn material in general has hematite in it.  The shine from the hematite is making it look brighter than the surrounding area.
