That reminds me of the time I was sleeping along a trail while going to a climb. i had just laid down to get a few hours rest when an eathquake struck , about a 4 , and it took many hours for the rumbling of the rocks falling from cliffs to end. Volcanics are especially prone to quick and nasty erosion which is why so many climbers are hit by rocks on the volcanoes around here.
