Fluorite
« on: July 26, 2018, 08:14:29 AM »

3 3/4”. Fluorite
I have named the sphere.  PIA
I started with a rock that I thought I could get a 6” sphere out of. First cut exposed crappy rock than it was do badly fractured that I had to stabilize it three time to get it cut and you can still see fractures. I may be able to get a 3” out of what is left if I want to mess with it

Oh man, Jhon, and that would have been a real beauty if it wasn't all fractured.   :sad5:

Jhon, fluorite is difficult stuff to handle.  It has perfect cleavage in 4 directions and the cleavage planes are easily opened with just a tiny amount of pressure or an accidental bump.  I think you did a great job just keeping the sphere in one piece!
