Amethyst "rose de france"
« on: March 17, 2017, 04:10:49 AM »

I keep working ... polishing, polishing and above all polishing. Finished at 0.5 microns. Should end up at 0.1 microns, 100,000 grit ???
The next one is a very small emerald.
As I always expect your opinions

A hug, my friends

Beautiful piece of carving!  I think I'd go blind doing something that small.  Looking forward to pictures of the emerald!   :headbang:

Kurt - you do.  The goldfish you carved out of that Montana comes to mind.  Don't sell yourself so short.   :icon_sunny:

PolkaDot it was, I think. But, these shapes are still representative of an overall shape.
Freeform flow like here is different. I tried, but never ever got something pleasing to the eye.
Somehow, I seem to always end up in something like an abstract realism, if that makes sense.
There seems to be always the need to represent something.
True freeform like here, does not exist in my head or hands, can only appreciate in others.

Yep, polka dot.  Still -- the tail and fins of that fish are the same "freeform" shapes just attached to a fish body.  Think of it that way and just carve a tail or fin of a goldfish.  Viola!

BEAUTIFUL!   :blob1: I would love to see step by step the bits, equipment and process that you use, if you ever have time to post that for one of these projects. You do beautiful work.
