India Pietersite update
« on: March 16, 2018, 06:52:52 PM »

Here are the photos to show what I found with e-bay purchased Pietersite from India.  They were well worth the price, under $15. They also need to be re-cut and re-polished before I would ever consider using them for jewelry. You can see the dull finish, non-uniform shape, scratches, pits and saw cuts in the stones. In the re-polished stone you can actually see the light bulb filament in the reflection. You will not see it in the photo but I can actually read the writing on the bulb reflected in the cabochon.

first picture is two out of the bag cabochons bottom view
second photo shows comparison of re-polished verse out of the bag cabochons.

,more pictures.   Top pic shows an almost finished re-polish.  Good, but not quite there.   Still, for $15 I am happy.  I cannot buy rough this good anywhere local for near this price.

I have been seeing a lot of pietersite cabs from India on eBay. IMO these cabs are cut from African material.
