Title: What is Agate, Jasper, etc... good explanation
Post by: 55fossil on November 18, 2017, 09:58:36 AM
https://rocktumbler.com/blog/what-is-agate-jasper-chalcedony/     This page has a great and easy to understand explanation of Cryptocrystalline Quartz family. The difference between agates and jaspers with just enough details to make you go,  oohhhh, now I understand. It also has pictures of rocks that are being called jaspers which are not and explains why they are not jaspers. This is even a good review for those out there with a good understanding of rocks.

That is a great overview and hits on several important and interesting points.  My go to source for telling folks about agates, jaspers, and other quartz relatives is   www.quartzpage.de   It is a bit more encyclopedic, but quite visitor friendly and easy to skip around in.  Now if you just want to marvel at the beauty of jasper.  World of jasper page is something else.
