Intense blue gem silica, 18.09ct, inspiration mine...
« on: August 06, 2016, 02:34:29 AM »

This piece of stone is unique in that there is no green, malachite material within this cutting, only the floating blue color in the chalcedony base stone. Looking thru the stone at lights one can see the blue areas as clouds of color. The stone was cut by Frank Schaffer of Pa. This material is a favorite of his & he does the stuff well in presentation-the next pendent-steve...

The cutter who did this stone used rough from the inspiration mine in Arizona, this material is said to be of the best color blue to be seen. Im quoted retail pricing from $250-$450/ct. depending on color clarity & cut of the stone + the material does have a health hazard involved in the cutting/polishing of the stones, a minimum of copper poisoning from breathing the dust from the stone is a concern. The price for a stone as this & it is rare in this configure being all blue, no green malachite within the stone & the base chalcedony almost clear is in the $5,000.00 to $6,000.00/stone range. Im posting a 2nd pic of a 23ct pendent showing the top color/clarity of this same material, the cost at a show is in the same ball-park. I can tell you if one goes to a show & finds material as this, talk to the owner, everything is negotiable & you could get lucky. I dont have a lot of pieces but what I have deserves a 2nd look in most cases. The shield pendent is 23cts, almost top quality & pic is under sunlight to show the color, natural-steve... :hello:

I like the pendant better, it's got more boy to the color.

Ive posted the stone, now here is the finished pendent, 14kt yellow gold. The stone looks like mother nature had a 'work in progress' still going on, but I think the stone has its own personality & is unusual to find in this config-steve...
