Madras OR Member Potluck
« on: May 09, 2016, 05:38:36 PM »

Thought I would start a thread for the Madras meet up. I'm planning on attending +2, and looking forward to sharing a camp fire with fellow members on Saturday night. Does anyone who's been there before have a good camp spot line up? It would be nice to all camp together so we could have adult beverages and watch Gergis fall down..

I can think of millions of things I would rather do than watch Gergis fall down.

My wife and I will arrive around noon thursday and leave Sunday morning. Due to my health we can't camp yet unfortunately so watching Gergis not fall down at my house will have to suffice.

Maybe if I ask really really nicely maybe I can hitchhike with the lithics down there, but I'd need to clear it with work first and maybe work an extra hour or so every day the week before to make up hour for it or something cause I cant afford to lose any hours right now. And I really shouldnt be buying anymore rocks..but I'd love to see you my friend!!

There seems to be enough people attending that a Meetup would be fun. I'll do some research about camping and find a spot to land, and I could host. That way everyone can tottle off to their comfortable beds after.

Gerg- Check with Kyle too. I'm pulling his chain about attending.

What dates is the Pow Wow this year? Only time I have been there was 3 summers ago. Camped out at the fairgrounds. Cheap but not the most comfy.

The Prineville and Madras shows used to bracket the July 4th weekend, but they're now the last half of June. They still are consecutive, and the towns are close to each other, so it's possible to do both in a single trip. Dates are on their websites:
- Madras
- Prineville
Both host digs to otherwise closed areas (require a small membership fee + per pound to land owner). Prineville is less crowded and cooler temps; Madras usually has more vendors.

So a good Dealer friend of mine who is "In The Know" told me that there is always plenty of camping on the grass area at the show grounds. That's where we'll set up, And I will post when I get there.

If everyone prefers, we could meet at a place with tables and chairs and waitresses instead of roughing it. I know I'd appreciate a nice cool place to sit after looking at rocks all day.

Gergis- If you don't make it, I'm going to eyeball punch you next trip over. ;)
