Nephi palm wood. The rock was a gift from Sandsave

A better shot of the handle
-
I like the handle bunches but I LOVE THE BLADE!!!
-
Nice work, I know you mentioned it might not be a good enough piece. Turned out great
-
That is VERY cool looking! :glasses9:

Wow,,Looks great!!!! Do you forge your own blades? Sure is a eye catcher!!
-
very nice and yes the blade is unique. how are the holes done? drilled on both sides? what's the thickness of the blade?
-
It's fairly thick, it is a blank that I bought and is manufactured to look like if was hammer forged. I have one that we use in our kitchen that seams to be used most of the time.
I have wanted to learn to do forging. I will try it one of these day when I find a good deal in an anvil. Right now it's more fun to just do the handles.
-
do try to get into forging. sounds like fun but physical work. what you burn for your fire must be deeply researched. what i mean is that you can't use 'just coal' but a specific type of coal. and your exhaust is the next type of safety factor. don't know much more about eit xcept what i hear and see on tv. good luck and have fun.

I have done enough research that I would go with a propane forge, better more even heating and no mess or ash. If I had the money I would invest in a power hammer. Need one to
Do Damascus

yes, i've seen the power hammers and i would strongly recommend that too. it would save major physical work and time.

in our wood carving club we have a fellow carver/rockhounder who walks around with an oxygen tank. i can see how saddened he is from not being able or willing to participate anymore. his primary hobby was forging. it was the "coal/exhaust" that got to him. i work with stone and bone so he's always watching out for how i "do things"...

Anvils are outrageously priced IMO but I use a 20" long piece of old railroad track ($5 at scrap yard). It definitely serves its purpose for knife making and there are tons of good youtube videos where guys make the track look like a real anvil ( I assume incase you need the front cone)

hubby got me a piece of railway track that i use as an anvil. how did you get the lovely points?
