My other hobby, BBQ
« on: April 09, 2017, 08:02:10 AM »

over the last couple few years the bottom of my 55 gallon texas style pit bbq rusted out and fell apart.
Over the last couple weeks i have been ressurecting my franken-Q.

I had another barrel, sliced it in half, and then tore the old rusty bottom off.
broke out my wire welder (that i dont know how to use really) and proceeded to bubblegum weld the parts back on the new bottom.

Finally completed it for the final burn in, built a log fire in it to burn it out.
yesterday, i had to season it. two pork shoulders dripping grease all over in it.....MMMMMMM

let one cook openly, the other was sealed the whole time it was on the fire.

Im excited to have my pit back in action again & my wife not hounding me to fix it lol!

Normally I am not social, but...  I may be inclined to come visit for a full inspection. Maybe I could pay you with some rocks for the privilege?????

these shoulders were good.
the one smoked shoulder took all day on the grill, the ohter one was seasoned and closed up in the tin like it was baked (basically was).
I never cook directly over the coals, so my food taked double to time to complete on the grill.

My pork ribs are to die for.
If i had a large enough place to cook a trailer full, i could go into business.
But i would have to be able to cook them faster than 6.5 hours lol

Looks delicious.
Just build a much smaller one in concrete for the cabin.
Still have to figure out a lid system, but will try it out by coming weekend anyway.

Nice!
I was thinking about making a nice cinder block pit (a permanent one) in the back yard, but since we rent. Leaving it behind once i get this better paying job and buy my own home I will wait.

Homemade sausages? That's something I have to get back into. The quality of sausages (food in general) over here is scary.

Given up on bigger jobs, own house etc....
Not getting younger, time to live life. No time to wait for a better tomorrow.
Doing the project without real security, so, could be denied access any time.
But, the fun getting to that point is not something anyone can take away.

My Husband needs one of these.
Except we shall build ours to be surrounded by adobe and stone, which helps keep in heat.   :icon_sunny:

One of these days i will build a bigger pit like you are speaking of.
I love BBQ, i am a master at making meat taste so good you have dreams about it.
I make Koolaid ribs, they arent koolaid, i just call them that.
I make ribs that bring memories of my childhood in the flavor of black cherry. they taste just like black cherry Kool-aid.
