Jadeite is not normally faceted because not enough light returns from the back of the stone to make it worth the trouble. If you try I would use standard quartz angles . If the light transmission from the stone is not adequate you can experiment with lowering the top of the stone and lessening the bottom , pavillion angles to give the light less stone to go through. If you are only talking about faeting the top , making whats called a buff top you make the back flat and you are getting no light from the back of the stone.

Thank you for the input . This is the type of facet I am after but am unsure what this cut is called or if it is cut flat on bottom or not . BD3D928E-A79D-4A59-94FA-034DF146C7A9.jpeg

It has a partial pavillion , the bottom. Most of the bottom is flat but it looks like there are two rows of facets on the back in addition to the flat bottom. If you have access to a flat lap and pads you can learn to approximate this by hand but you must practice with valueless rough first.

I have seen quite a few examples of faceted jadeite. Seems to have become fashionable over the last 15 years or so among Hong Kong designers. The pieces I've seen have only been highly translucent; almost transparent (ice jade and top-quality greens). They had both full pavilion and table cuts. I think quartz angles are a good suggestion. They glow internally, but the light return is not critical. The cut stones were selling for multiple thousands $ per carat at Christies and Sotheby auctions. I agree also that you'd need to practice on lower quality material, as at the high end the polish is perfect and bright (not matte; with not even slight orange peel undercutting).

Thanks . Love forums and the info that the multiple of members can bring / share. That ring sold for 2.3 milion USD at Christies

????  light return on jade...   Many of the best cabochon cut jadeite   ie  Imperial Jade,  are cabochon cut with a small dome on the bottom as well. Truly good jade with excellent transparency is cut for the Chinese market with front and back domes for light return.

That said, I am not certain this applies to average grade jade or faceted materials. I would be interested to know if the light return applies in these cases with faceted stones.
