Newest Metal Clay Piece
« on: February 06, 2015, 05:52:19 PM »

I made this necklace for my friend Gina.
The pendant is dyed/heat treated agate and silver clay with a small cubic zirconia set in it.  The bail is Silver filled wire.  The cord is latex-free rubber.

Thanks Randy.
I remember Gina loving the pattern in this agate at the Flagg Gem and Mineral show.  So I decided she needed it in a pendant!  She's been my sounding board and a shoulder to lean on with some of the things I've been going through recently.  I wanted to show her I appreciate the support.

She will love it, Amanda.  What a lovely way to show your appreciation.  A hand made gift is so special ...

It's very beautiful.   :icon_sunny:

I like the way your work is branching out.  I have some of that large 4 mm cording and like the look of it.  Can you show us how you did the cord ending?

Helene - The ends of the cord are crimped tight with wire to act as something for the E6000 to stick to.  They are then glued into the cord ends with the E6000 and allowed to dry.
I do things this way as I found that sometimes cording and E6000 will separate in cord ends unless something is there to really give the E6000 a good hold.

Very nice Amanda!  I've been wondering about metal clays.  They have classes for them where I consign.  So far though I have only taken a silver smithing class there.  Is it hard to learn?  I have all of the tools needed for an at home smithing station, I haven't used any of them yet though.  Think I need a few more classes before I am comfortable enough doing it by myself under no supervision (((hide)))  Always looking at other avenues of setting too though!!!!!!

If you have ever played with polymer clay (Sculpey, Fimo, Cernit etc) then working in metal clay isn't a huge step.  The difference is that sometimes you have to let a clay piece air dry hard between steps.

A class is a good start, or grab a good book on the subject and teach yourself like I did.  I still have a long way to go, but I've been slowly muddling through working with the silver clay.
