Outrageous Cab Contest July 2016
« on: July 02, 2016, 06:21:34 AM »

Rules:
1) Cab must be made by you.
2) Cab must be made within the time period of this contest.  NO pulling old cabs from your storage baskets!
3) As long as the basic shape is considered a cab it's golden.  You can enter intarsias and carved top cabs such as cameos etc.  After all, this is the OUTRAGEOUS cab contest!  We love free form cabs!  Pull out the stops and give us the best you have!
4) One entry per person please!
5) Please show photos of your slabs and preforms if you can so we can see your thought process and how you did things.
6) No finished jewelry pieces.  Just the cab.
7) Cab sets are OK.
8) This is only for bragging rights and your cabochon photo posted up top in the forums unless someone posts a lapidary related prize and wants to ship it to the winner of the contest.
Let the games begin!!!   :toothy10:

Hey All

Would I be correct in saying that this is for a new contest? If so Camilla my 10 year old just finished her stone and she did a killer job.I did help her by trimming the stone, doping it and I also changed the wheels on the flap lap.I am so proud of her :glasses9:

Bless Shawn

Yes. New month, new contest.  Have her enter her cabachon to get us started for sure!  I'm going to try to not be lazy and get something entered this month also.

I am going to make an Icicle Agate doublet for this month.  I show the slab and 2 closer images, not sure whether I am going to do the top or bottom.

Hi All

This is Camilla's entry. She will get on later and tell you about it. It is her first real try at a calibrated stone and she did a wonderful job.

Wow!  Very nice stone Camilla!  I always struggle with obsidian but you did a fantastic job on the polishing.  Great first entry for this months contest.

Some nice entries brewing! Here's mine for this month.

A largish Stoney Creek Jasper out of Northern California. I have a soft spot for breccia and this 2lb rough got my juices going as soon as I saw it. Nice sharp islands of yellow Jasper floating in a sea of red/maroon agate. Classic!

2" tall, 1" wide, about 6mm thick with a tallish girdle and a medium dome.

I have been doing some custom Trents and I figured I would set one up here....
40x5 mm round with live drusy edge. Polished on both sides.

That stony creek! Love that material.  Looks like you got a nice solid one too. Hard to find out there sometimes!

WOW, love all entries and turning red with envy because of those fabolous finishes.
Well done, one and all.
As I'm a sucker for colour, right now Stoney Creek is my favorite. :) :) :)
