Lapidary Equipment and Supplies
« on: October 18, 2014, 07:48:46 PM »

I thought it might be helpful to start a thread listing some of the places we like to frequent for our equipment and supplies.  Trusted sources are always helpful when choosing new tools.

I've never used this one but it definitely piqued my interest when I found the link:

Anyone have and preferred vendors for saw blades they want to share?

I get my blades from Tony at Idaho Rock Shop and John at jsgems. Most of you probably know them both. I have met them both (Tony is my bestest buddy) and they are honest to a fault.

I happened to be visiting this thread to see about saw blade sources, since I am googling the above listed people, here are their links:

There were a couple of JSGems pages but I'm pretty confident this is the one (one was faceted gems, the other sent me to a shoe store):

I agree with Wampidy . Sure had my problems with the big dealers over the years but not with these folks.I would add Eastwind for soft wheels and Jadecarver for anything they sell, they both have very functional equipment.

Ooooo Eastwind has hand polishing pads too!  I have not seen those on the other sites (maybe I just wasn't looking in the right place?).

I think this is the right link for Franks recommendation- this is a very cool site to me, because it helps you to know which tools to use for carving just by what they sell.

Eastwind has a couple type of pads. They have the standard lapidary pad but they also have a new pad that is stiff and does not deflect at all for use on the top end flat lap machines where pads can cost a few hundred dollars each.
