Lost Wax Casting
« on: March 07, 2015, 12:09:37 AM »

Also known as investment casting

Stuff my husband and I have cast on the back patio :)

I have sold a few of these bark scorpions

This used to be my pet Tiger Rump tarantula.  A feeder roach ate it's butt so I had to use a replacement stone

My snake chain which I wear almost every day

This was a custom order for a gal that was making wedding favors for her sisters wedding- you wire beads, etc onto the loop and it's a one size fits all little bling ring.  There is a name for them but I can't remember it right now

Some other misc stuff

All the charms are cast

There is a lot more.  LOL

I never ever stop eating breakfast to post but today is an exception. I thought you just buzzed around and told everyone else how good they are. Then the other day you stated that my son's painting was right up your alley. You are for sure not in an alley, you are on a ten lane super highway. I love your stuff and it is about time you posted it. I want to see more. Especially a little dragon because everything out there that I could find is crap compared to your work.

A bit overwhelming! How long have you been at this? I would love it if you posted someday about how you clean and chase these. Thanks.

I agree!!  I am in dire need of a scorpion or two, and a tarantula thorax and legs (with head of course) would be most wonderful!!  So...........

You should have seen the wire pieces she pulled out of her box yesterday that she had started at some point in the past and then set aside!   :icon_sunny:
Her work is outstanding!  She cuts gorgeous cabs too, just rarely posts them.
I've been teaching her beading techniques to add to her list of skills.
Gina is very talented!   :icon_sunny:

Wow thanks everyone.  I wasn't sure this kind of stuff would be your cup of tea, I am thrilled you like it!

I have some in-process casting pics, I'll post them in another thread.  I should point out, the pieces, with the exception of the NA symbols and the bling rings are all purchased wax patterns from a company which is now no longer in business.  Like everything hubby and I do, I have a crap ton of various wax patterns still.  LOL

One time we did a bunch of lobsters for a friend who lives around the corner- he has a group, can't remember what type of club it is, they all go camping together up at Pumpkin Center during the summer and off-roading and stuff, and their mascot is a lobster.  LOL - how the lobster became the mascot is a story I have not heard yet.  So I made earrings and hat pins and pendants out of them.  :D

Oh sorry for inundating you.  LOL  Dinner took a long time to cook (baked bbq ribs).

We started messing around with casting a few years ago, maybe 2009/2010.  I started messing around with wire work around 2003-ish I suppose.  It was one of those deals where I was crafting with a friend using elastic cord and cheapie beads, then realized I wanted to use material I would actually want to wear, then realized if I learned how to that type of work I wouldn't have to buy it pre-fabricated, one technique after the other after the other...

Husband and I took a wax casting class one night a week at what used to be the Mining and Mineral Museum in Phoenix, decided it was cool and then bought all the stuff to do it at home.

These are the first pieces I ever cast:

Very cool Gina. I might try that some day too. But it will have to wait until some other projects get tried first.

I hear your cries my friend, I hear your cries!  LOL

If I had a nickel for every time I said, "I can make that!" I'd have 48 more complete set ups for different mediums and techniques that I want to try and a warehouse to live in so I can accommodate all of the equipment.
