Oynx
« on: January 22, 2017, 02:34:01 PM »

I took last week off, My wife and I was in need of a vacation. (now I am a week behind on work)
we spent a few days in Quartzsite doing some rockhounding  with my pocketbook. I spent way too much on rocks. I did get some very nice sphere material.  than we went over to Pahrump Nevada to visit my Friend Bill and my sister. we did trips out to two oynx locations (calcite oynx). and I loaded up on sphere material, has to be over 1,500lb, my one ton Super duty was down on the overload springs.
Nice big blocky pieces. I will be able to get 6" plus size spheres.

That makes my back ache just looking at it. BUT it looks like it will be well worth the effort.

Hey Jhon yall sphere people seem to be able to polish things that we cab people have a lot of difficulty with. Soft stuff and crack vuggy stuff. Hoe hard is onyx? I have some but have been afraid to try it. Mine is a yellow banded very pretty piece of rough.

Hey Bill, it's pretty soft. Mob 4 I think. I have canned it but didn't ever make any jewlery because it scratches. It is easy to polish. Shape it on a 220 wheel or it will disappear pretty fast.

Hey Sandsave.  You want a couple more cubes of oynx? If I ever get the saw oil changed and cleaned. I will finish cutting the cubes I am going to send you.
