McDermit Seam Agate
« on: August 12, 2017, 06:14:18 PM »

Been out of shop for awhile between work, rockhound trips and a family reunion I haven't got much done lately.
This is from McDermitt the Cordova mine, we found a agate seam about 2-3' thick, I thought it was a bit more solid when we collected and showed more color.
It's 4" and has a few defects. I have more with different color in them I'll have to try another.

Yes the red on the exterior was semi surface, I have another that me and Dalton rolled down from the top, it looks better.

Ive collected some from the cordova mine myself....neat stuff with a wide range of colors. Not carnival agate though....that's in a different location along the McDermitt loop. Ive got a few different types from the Carnival location.....stuff is so dense that I have to get one of my other saws up and running that I can slow the feed down to cut without jamming

Did you have to hike for the Carnivel agate on the upper loop?

Not really. Some material was fairly close to the vehicles, but some spots required to walk out a little bit to look at the outcrops.... but not fair enough for me to call a hike. Wish i had more time to spend walking around the different spots and get away from the areas that everyone sticks to. Always do so much better when i can get out further from the main pickings
