Hi Walt they would come up pretty good as picks I sent some ribbonstone over to a member last year which he made into picks they looked pretty good and every one is unique.  Dave

Cut some Mogollon jasper today....Pretty much anywhere on the geology map that says "rim gravels" will have some type of jasper. The "rim gravels" pre-date the uplift, and were washed in from the south from the Mezetal mountains. With all of the horizontal and vertical travel, it's hard to find solid pieces, but I've managed to find a few. I collected this material
last summer when trying to find and photograph the Pinedale coal field.

very nice stuff, that one you have marked brown agate is actually fire agate.

I have quite a bit of it. I have ground it as carefully as I can and I've never seen any flash. I might be attacking it from the wrong side or something...

I believe it is from the lower piece here. I cut it across, then ripped it to try to expose the brown layer. I may have cut through the fire? I'll try leaving more material next time.
