VERY VERY brittle, breaks in hand even at 1/4 inch thick.

If it's that fragile I would say stabilize it before you cab it.

It looks like some opalized wood that I have. I think mine was from the northwest too. It is very brittle and has tiny fractures in it. It was to bad because I really like petrified wood. I only got a few cabs out of mine. You could use hot stuff on individual cabs if there are only a few fractures. Eric.
