Redoing an Owl Necklace I sold off my Neck at Tucson 2016
« on: December 25, 2021, 03:00:56 PM »

So back in 2016, I sold my favorite necklace right off my neck.  A Pietersite dealer at the Pueblo show bought it for his daughter who loves Owls.

So now I am redoing it.
Here is the progress so far after three live streams.

Owl by Laura Mears.

Incredibly beautiful!.   Just wondered about the size of it and do you keep track of just how many beads are in this piece of art???

55Fossil, math was never my forte.
I don't keep track of the sheer number of beads.

Oh, no - you don't count the beads???

That piece is incredible. Already. Also can't wait to see it finished - maybe not as much as you.

It'll all be good. Probably take you longer to count the money than to do the piece.

If I spent that much time on something that's how it would be! It would be a BIG pile of dollar bills.

If I were to ever sell this piece - and I'm not going to, it would be in the neighborhood of $2K+.  Pietersite isn't cheap anymore, plus I have Victoria stone in it, AND that porcelain owl is $150 on it's own!  Figure in my time and the cost of the other materials as well...

Oh - I thought maybe you were re-doing it for whomever bought it before. Didn't realize (or remember) the owl is porcelain.

I don't blame you for wanting to keep this one. I wouldn't have blinked if you had thrown out a number higher than that.

I didn't even realize that the blue was Victoria from the angle of the pic.  I have a hard time parting with mine, I had almost 3 boules of the original Victoria Stone still in the original wrapping and instructions I got from a jeweler friend in the 80's.  I sold one of the boules to the Aussie from Rough and Tumble that was trying to recreate it a few years back with limited success,  Most of his boules broke so he would sell parts of the boule, but I sold it to help him try to recreate that beautiful stone.  I kept my favorite Boule that was a blue green color and then I have some black, green, deep blue and white sections of boules.  Great to see it getting used and could think of no finer place than your necklace.  I think Vince is spot on that the price doesn't even make me question it given the piece!!  Just love your artwork and skill.

What I find really impressive is that it's such a rich work of art with so many components, colors, and textures - and yet, it does not feel overdone. Beautiful to stare at.
