Getting near to my old stomping grounds. I grew up in Nevada, and I love the desert. Please post many photos, and if you ever make it into the northern end of the state, I'll happily divulge some good locations.

Which state Goodearth? We are planning a trip in July to the Prineville, Oregon area. Spoke to a member from another forum and received a luke warm reception when I asked about specific directions. Still planning on going just need to get more info. I was even bringing him red horn coral and Nephi pet wood. When asked about locations I make sure you find what's in the area, if I can't go with. (KARMA) Last two summer trips we went to get moss agate in the Yellowstone river.

Nevada. I've got a couple of good spots there.

Don't know Oregon very well, but I have been up to Maury Mountain for moss agate. Fun dig, and prime wildflower season during the Prineville show. Pick up a copy of the Oregon Gem trails book and you'll have general directions to a few still good sites.

Jackpot.NV the weather wasn't our friend. Started raining lightly at mid day and by 5:00 had to get out. The collecting areas are 20-35 miles in on dirt roads with a clay type base, just like brown ice! Four wheel drive to get out. Our plan was to collect opal springs agate and jasper, then snake skin and wood. Saturday we were going to spend the day digging for limbcast. Saturday was a no go. But being true rock hounds we drove out of the rain, headed south to Wendover, NV to collect agate.

You have to get up early before the rocks start hiding for the day.
A couple picks of the area before the rain started.

Opal Springs jasper & agate, color is not a problem! The last is a cab of the rock before it.

Here are some of the snake skin agate and pet wood. Didn't have much luck finding pet wood. A couple of yard rocks courtesy of Mother Nature

Here's the agate from Wendover,NV. Don't look like much so I cut one. This material is in seems and is laying all over. The solid material like the one I cut has to be dug out.

Great pictures. If you haven't driven on wet clay roads you have no idea how bad it can get . If you have a specific goal in the Prineville area I can ask a friend who has been there a bunch in years past.

Thanks for the pictures!  Too bad the weather misbehaved.  It's been misbehaving here since Friday.  Of course, tomorrow when it's back to work, the sun is going to be shining and it will be warmer.   :dontknow:
