New knives scales
« on: October 24, 2023, 07:27:11 AM »

Its been awhile. I deployed, got new computers  and essentially lost track of this forum. In the meantime I took a class on doing knife scales amongst other things and have been doing those for awhile. Sold a few, still building up enough stock to actually have a stand at local gunshows. This is more of a side gig than anything else to justify my buying of more rocks to the wife :P

Before I post more I guess I need to figure out how to make images appear on the post. I thought attaching them would be all I needed to do like on other forums.

I FIGURED IT OUT YAY!!!

Resize any images you wish to add as attachments to 600x800 or whatever automatic size the settings say to keep images to scale.
Download paint.net and give that a try.
OR, email the images to yourself and that also resizes them automatically

I've got a 3 blade Schrade in my pocket right now very akin to the one pictured. It's got a really light colored, smooth material for scales. Maybe horn? Either way, yours is lovely. How do you avoid problems with refitting pins?

Easy, I dremel them down to get the usual wood or plastic scales they come with off. Then I clip the remainder and dremel the nubs down to the metal and make sure its a smooth surface. Its the easiest part of the whole process. The I use the old scales that (hopefully) came off intact to stencil the shape and angles needed for the ends on the stone slabs. Then I have an intarsia machine for the 90 degree angles.

So no need to refit when the whole shebang is coming off initially. Thanks for the break down!
