April/May Project update 08/05
« on: April 15, 2018, 03:47:39 AM »

After what seems like months, I'm finally getting back to the machine to do some work in stone.

Just got started on my intended project for the month, a combo of 6 different pieces to be combined into a concept piece/pendant.
Started the easy ones first, Mexican Fire Agate bug, and some teeth out of Orrums US Moonstone.

Biggest challenge will likely be to realize a small scorpion out of Dino Bone.... :)

In the meantime, finished up an Ugly Duckling leftover.
At least now it can be used as pendant.

Overcast rainy conditions, so colours are better at hand.....

Thanks for looking, Kurt

Yeah, the current project is not for everyone's taste... :) :)

This is to express my distaste and protest about language use, where obscenities and foul words have become a norm that seems to be acceptable by a majority.

Secondly: it sprung from recently flared up dealings with a relative that I have/had to endure for far to long already.

My mind went ".... rolling stones reference?" at first. I get the symbolism when you spell it out, and agree on the language. Got a few coworkers who know better but use it anyway.

Kurt, I think your carving depicts that particular topic well.  The forked tongue clued me in before you explained (and what you named the picture).  I've been looking at the lines in the lips.  They are so realistic, it's spooky.

Slowly getting there. Lips, tongue and teeth are polished and fused.

Still struggling with accepting my limitations working the size of the scorpion. Not happy with overall shape. Tail needs to change, and I hope that will give the creature instant recognition.
Just to get an idea what size we are talking about.......

Its my own fault, pride does not agree with me getting magnifying visors yet,.... But cant put it off forever, I suppose.

As soon as I saw the shape I thought scorpion, maybe overly self critical.  I think it reads just fine.  Maybe someone who has never seen one might wonder but i think it works just fine.

The scorpion looks like a scorpion to me. The other art project is very interesting and applies to many avenues in life. Great piece of art !!!

Look turns out more that of a maggot. Never mind, as long as it looks creepy in the end.
Shape seems ok overall. Lets hope I can carry it beyond the sanding to the polish. While this creature has essentially a fixed place, I'm still waiting for a silver spider before committing individual pieces to their places.

After tinkering for nearly two months, put it finally together. Only thing left to do is make it wearable. FA bug, Dinobone scorpion, opal worm, jasper mouth, jade tongue and moonstone teeth, plus bought the silver spider.
ppfoul mouth one by Kainzer  Kurt, on Flickr
As a concept this is a piece that is open for interpretations. For me its about common acceptance of swearwords in use just about anywhere. AND the creatures, to me represent something a bit worse.

Split tongue = lies,
scorpion = words can/are often be pure poison,
worm/centipede = general rot,
Spider = fearsome to most,
Bug = driving in decay.

They stand for lies and deceit that we all have to deal with on daily basis.
Maybe a title for this piece could be "Verbal Diarrhoea" or "Don't trust my words".
