jade ray
« on: June 22, 2016, 02:42:46 PM »

A little ray (it is my fishy time!  :LOLOL:) made in one of our local jade. It didn't get a too glassy gloss (the picture was taken before the final polish), because I encounter some  orange peel. I don't really know why, I was quite careful not to heat too much the stone, but still it came. If I remember well I already had the issue on a similar stone.

Very nice! I like the shape and the gesture of it very much.

I'm not bothered by the finish. It it bothers you, in the future try polishing with wood, oil and diamond powder or silicon carbide powder. I make my bits mostly out of maple wood, and if it's a small area it even use toothpicks. Wooden dowels work well, too.

All that said, I've had things orange peel on the very last stage of polishing, it can be really frustrating.

Is that what they call "Happy Camp Jade" and what is your local area?

thanks for the advises about the wood, I'll try that too. I did use some diamond paste but with felts.
I am in New Caledonia, south pacific, not far from Australia.
I saw some "happy camp jade", yes it does looks like this, but with less translucence.
