That is one elegant piece. The color pattern is great but even better are the proportions and curving surfaces. The hole appears larger than need be and thus makes the piece look delicate.  What more is there to like?

That's a nice one. Looks like the good darker color rough and a great pendant to show it off.

The faces of my stones have  a curve but not much of one and the edges are essentially perpendicular to the faces. The edge has only the slightest of curves.Pendants can get banged around a lot and the stronger and thicker the edge the better in my view. That said it was made from a thinish slab as so many are today.

It is a porphry which just describes the crystals in the ground mass. The ground mass of these varies a little bit but is essentially  a diorite much of the time. The whole rock can also be metamorphosed to the point that the black ground mass has blue highlights, a  sign some has been converted into chlorite.Some call the mix a diabase  but I have noticed that geologists are very leery of a definitive description without  analytical testing.
