Double take
« on: November 27, 2016, 04:55:02 PM »

I cut a grooved Trent and my wife hit it with some sterling... 2mm black leather lanyard and voila!
She named it "double take" 'cause whenever she wears it people look twice then ask her what the h#*! is that?

That's a striking piece.  It doesn't surprise me that people do a double-take when they see it!

Well "double take " is a good name except I looked at it about 4-5 times so far and will likely look a few more times also! LOLOLOL Very nice piece!

Beautiful stone and great way to show it off. Reminds me that I need to try some groove cutting. I think I saw a tutorial on here somewhere. Besides looking that up, any advice for first-time groove cutters?  Cut the groove after shaping but before cabbing?

Yes, I always grove the preform before I finish the cab. Maybe leave a little extra rock outside the final shape so when you grind the dome/s you get a nice smooth grove.
I made a fence that I can run the preform against and put a line on the trim saw blade at the depth I want the groove to be. Then freehand the grove to the mark on the blade.
Takes a bit of practice but I have gotten to the place it is fairly comfortable for me.
Allows one to show a lot of stone.
