The best rock hound in Mississippi has come out west to show us how it is done. She's uncanny , finding two pieces of jade with her feet alone when I only found four additional pieces all day . This was an exploration trip to try to establish the upper limit of jade in the stream and explore. The obligatory early morning beach jade stop started the day.

We found a waterfall with plunge pool which was fantastic. From up stream we could see the top of the waterfall and it looked to be about 100 feet tall. We found lots of clay cliffs along the stream and there is a nice picture of laminated clays from there.

The tree they are standing in front of in the last pictures is a pacific silver fir.

Just look at all of those cobbles, WOW! What is that big rock that the BRHIM is sitting on? Looks a tad bit big to take back on the plane.
-
wow. wish i was able to play too......:(
-
The big sitting rock is a sculpted piece of dunite. In the foreground you can see the unweathered green of the rock where the most erosion is happening wearing away the ever forming oxidation rind. This is the first "sharks fin " erosional pattern on any rock.

Wow! Looks like everyone had a blast! :icon_sunny:
If I ever get up there again during the non-winter months I'm hoping to get some hounding in.
I love seeing Helene SMILE! You have such a beautiful smile Helene! :icon_sunny:

did you take time to chip away layers of that clay looking for fossils?
I asked for Monday off, boss told me to go (bad word here) myself.
-
That looks like a trip that would have made my year. Good on all of you.

I had a boss like that at the last job I had back east. He almost put me into a grave. It wasn't a good situation. You could say my Husband rescued me from that. Hang tough Randy, it will get better.

What a beautiful place!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I admit it, I am jealous. It looks like it was a REALLY good day.

Mrs. Townsend you're just tired of the Arizona in August, time for a vacation in Flagstaff, just a walk in the woods would make you feel all better or maybe a trip up on top of the Rim above Payson looking for some fossil coral. Grab Amanda and go for a day trip and you'll both be feeling better for it.

Considering how sick I felt most of today due to things out of my control, that sounds like a blast!

No fossils under the clay, but we found many fossil ferns.
We went out today and I found my first piece of jade it was very small. I showed it to Frank, he confirmed it was jade and chucked it back into the water. The second piece I found was a keeper, I have to say it felt good to find a piece. Frank is a jade magnet he can spot jade pretty quick and packlithic had some heavy hauling today. She made lugging that stone look easy, so I was shocked when I lifted her backpack out of the truck and could barely lug it out and to the house. Fortunately packlithic saw me struggle and gave a helping hand. That girl is pretty special. She has so many good qualities, traits that give a person a better chance in life. Hard worker, good to people and her parents, studious, I'm naming just a few. She impresses me.

Amanda, You know you're in trouble when it is 117F at the airport! Now get your rockhound buddy and head for the hills!
Helene, Are you going to take your jade finds as baggage or ship them home as postage?
-
Good to hear you had such a great day our hunting Jade and other rocks! :icon_sunny:
I cannot wait to see what you create with your new found rocks! :headbang:
