Title: Alaskan Prehnite
Post by: Glenn on November 10, 2015, 01:46:44 AM
Just some Prehnite that I found throughout the last 2 years and continue to find....   The location is what most might consider remote but for me its not too remote as its only 2 miles from a road and 40 miles from a town..

First some pictures of the favorite time I get it and pics of some of my nicer pieces.

I'll be going back out in a month or 2 and I still have all of last years to clean

Beautiful.  Love the drusy.  I'd just slice that up and shape cabs out of it.  People buy drusy like crazy.   :headbang:

Beautiful location to dig! I can see why it is your favorite. Esp. the part about being 40+ miles from humans.

I'm jealous! Great rock but great place also. I miss the back country in winter and especially climbing mountains in winter. Dusk in the back country in winter has to be the best time for me , the light is absolutely unique and there is a touch of danger in the air because a long cold night is coming. I loved snuggling up in my bivy sack in such conditions , warm  , eating a bit and relaxing after  a strenuous day. Savor these days.

I will make cabs from it someday. Currently i'm slabbing all the material I got this year (500-1000 lbs of stuff) I also have 50 lbs of prehnite I need to clean (only half is mine as i'm cleaning some for my buddy who went with me).

I am sure there is a lot of safety involved on your phrenite collecting trips.  The pieces I've had the opportunity to cut brough out it's rich color.  Soft and easy to cut helps.

Actually on this spot I am not worried too much about safity at the particular area is not actively eroding with wind, its fairly stable until you start pounding.?

I'll post some slabs of the prehnite next time I clean my cuts.
