Well I find lots of agates.. I will continue to post more as a find / cut them... but for starters heres a few..

The thing to the left is silicified algae limestone or chert which my local geologists say.

On a different forum a few years ago people could not accept that limestone can get silicified. We also have a lot of limestone down here much of it with quarter size crinoids and it is in the crinoid parts that the silica ends up. When the limestone is found in a raging stream the extra erosion makes the slightly harder crinoids stand a bit proud from the matrix.

Yeah, almost everything can get silicated after it goes through some volcanism, On another forum I had some people obsessed calling it granite and saying that my local geologists are wrong :P It should make some decent cabs. It has agate like structures in it as well if you can't see them as my photo doesn't do justice.

I'm not sure what the people were thinking.. maybe just trying to give me a hard time or to show others something... i'm not sure. Its why i'm here now though :)

Seriously though, nice stones Glenn. Real interesting variety you find there. And I am in awe of the vastness of Alaska. I do a lot of solo wandering in the back country of the Southwestern US and people often tell me I'm crazy to go to "remote" places by myself. They have no idea what remote really is!
Its good to have you at the forums and looking forward to seeing more of your rocks and your adventures.

Well I almost have to stop my collecting in winter once we get snow... (I currently have about 1 ft at my house). The snow makes it very difficult to see stones on rivers and mountains :P.
Although I still go out a few times for prehnite in winter as I know exactly where the pocket is.. I just don't like going out when its 10 below and windy :P (20+ mph winds)
During the winter I slab a lot of material and make cabs / necklaces. I'll post some cabs and necklaces ive made in the past, all my cabs and things I made are on my lapidary facebook page as well.
