There's a place here called the 'bull pen' for its ridiculous fence and one-time use as a place to store a ranch's twelve bulls. Behind it is two large, rather interesting hills and a number of washes. The area burned since I was here last, so I used a morning off to trot up and poke around.

There's some interesting pieces in the creek, so I followed the wash up higher looking for the source.

(We're playing a game: it's called 'not the vein you're looking for.')

Scenic, but wrong kind.

...and that's too big to carry home.

Found a few good pieces and a pretty likely spot for the source of the lavender, and as it's about half a mile from home I'll definitely be back.

Nice view too, but oncoming rainstorm sent me home before the camera got wet.

Excellent rockhounding. What matters is the beauty of the hike and the knowledge that you are exploring a relatively untouched area. Seen any snakes or lizards yet. A very few lizards have been out on the wet side up here. They are probably getting their little heads blown off.

Nice job! That jasper looks very interesting and promising. :icon_thumleft:

No snakes or lizards yet! It was fairly chilly today. Lots of deer though, and a lot of birds. I think it's april/may before the bullsnakes come out, and then after the first bull, a month until rattlesnakes.
I went back out when it 'cleared off.' I got soaked but it was worth it.

The last few are from a place with brittle rock within a stone's throw of two anthropogenic sites. I'm not the first there, just maybe the first in a long time. It also had a pretty good fire go right over the top of it, so a lot of the surface rock is discolored/heat fractured from that.

All that near where you live now - including the scenery - is awesome. Good for you!

Jealous of anyone who has rocks like that so close to home.
Thanks for sharing your killer scores!
