Title: WIP Amber Clover and Coral
Post by: Asianfire on March 14, 2016, 03:51:09 AM
WOW, its been a month since the last post was made here........... :Bash:

I'm still fascinated and frustrated by how to work the amber.

Got some carving preforms done up to 600grid

None of those is expected to survive what I got on mind, but gotta try.

Something I wanna try next weekend, Indonesian Coral

And last but not least finally underway after a disastrous waste of time yesterday (managed to have absolutely nothing to show after trying 3 different things and everything turned into rubble). For a monthly challenge
Moss Agate

Is heat the problem?

Is heat the problem?

At the amber? Definitely! If I really want to take amber seriously, I will have to invest into carbon-burs and finally use the foot-control.

Yesterdays failure was, flourite and another section (much more interwoven clear with moss) of the same slab from which the clover is from.
Both are too easily fractured. At least the moss agate was expected to behave that way, but the flourite is a joke, got about a kg of the stuff and would like to just toss it after the way things went yesterday.  Never again....... :) Lesson learned.

Some of the most beautiful faceted stones ever cut are flourites. Having done it I can tell you only a crazy person would facet flourite. It sounds just as miserable to attempt to carve it.
