I took a trip to Japan last week for work. Had a blast, even got to see some rocks. To kick things off, I left about 30 minutes extra time in the drive to the airport to stop at a city park. L
ots of folks out fishing on the river.

I walked the beach there for about 20 minutes, found some potential suspects

I even came across this little road cut one afternoon and scored a little stone that I took home. I think I will use it for this month’s killer cab contest

Good trip. Never enough time to really look around. Just how did you get all those people out of the picture at the temple.
Those places are usually extremely crowded.
Yep, language can challenge ones imagination!
Thanks for sharing,

I really appreciate these pictures. Thank you. My son has only been home 6 months since his last deployment but he is heading out to Japan in a few weeks for a deployment on the south China sea. After a handful of deployments staring at Iranians in the strait of Hormuz he will get to stare at Chinese sailors who I suspect are better quality than the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy .For an old father the thought of well trained professionals on the other side is a relief in a sense. I have relatives in Malaysia and a life long interest in pottery so my son being based there may get me to Japan yet. If you get back I hope you have more time. Do you speak any Japanese? If not how was your experience?

So, if you come over here, don't forget to stop over in Hong Kong, guest-room will always be ready...

don't speak any Japanese, but I didn't have any issues. English was prevalent at my host institute, and I was able to pantomime through the remaining situations. The Japanese were very respectful and patient. I tried to be the same and all was grand.
