Yesterday lithicbeads, lithicstrings and I all took a trip over to the Olympic Peninsula. We made a quick stop at a stream that has produced some nice jasper in the past and found a bunch of nice pieces from fist sized to 20 lbs. The jasper in this location varies a lot in color. Most of it has the same basic zig zag pattern with most being in the red tonal range. However some is also has yellow in it. We found pieces of both yesterday as well as both the lighter and darker red jaspers. It was very sunny but the water in the stream was quite cold as without any rain recently it is all snowmelt.
The top picture is of a slab of material collected from the same creek last year to give an idea of what the pattern looks like when cut and the rest of the pictures are of yesterdays rough.

I wanted to get some basically red rough for small essentially monochrome beads and we sure did what we set out to do .

Sure looks like you all found some really nice rough! Can't wait to see some beads from it. :icon_sunny:

My tile saw died so we have to pick up a new one in the morning before I can preform. My monster mk took quite a beating over the years , good machine if a bit extreme in the noise department.

Oh WOW! Now that is a killer pattern in that Jasper! :icon_sunny:

Pure Torture! I'm planning a trip to the Peninsula in June to check on the house and pick up rocks. Can't wait!
Nice looking stuff here. We are calling the best of it "Harlequin" if memory serves.
