This does not seem to fit anywhere because there is no general rocks board and with the stones it doesn't really fit in the other hobbies section so here it is.
There are seven types of stone: angelite (blue), translucent jade (2 different greens, wampidy sunrise (pink local), speckled (pink local), agate (red local), lepidolite (speckled pink and grey). There are 14 separate individual stones on each wing making it 28 polished face stones all together.
The base is Wyoming cedar (self slabbed and the the branched piece the butterfly sits on is Wyoming sage brush with countless hours of cleaning, scraping and sanding.
The only thing left to do is add lights to the underside of the butterfly and possibly a lesser piece of cedar for the base since this one turned out to be a piece of art by itself. I have not decided whether or not to keep the brass shiny or tarnish it with something.
A local business owner bought a bunch of brass sculptures dirt cheap at a going out of business sale and is selling it very close to dirt cheap. I picked up the butterfly, many ducks and a couple of shore birds for little of nothing.
Dun blabbing.

This whole thing is pretty big. The butterfly is 14 inches across. Hope you like it.

I decided to change the wood base. Far from finished but here are photos of the new and old wood. Two holes to deal with but I am sure I can work with them.

I changed the cedar wood base and I think this one does not distract from the butterfly but is still pretty classy.

It's fine in this category. :icon_sunny:
I love it! It's beautiful and will be so cool looking back lit. :headbang:

It's a sculpture, with rock in it, so it fits here just fine. :icon_sunny:
Love it Jim. It's beautiful!

Looking great. Keep them coming. Love how you re-purpose things that come your way.

Very very nice! I love off the wall projects that require thinking out of the box. Cabs are nice and all, but something like this really shows off the skills and thoughtfulness of the artist.

Many thanks to all for the compliments. I get bored with doing the same thing over an over so I am always looking for something new and exciting.
At present I am carving a very large walking stick that I have had standing in a corner for several years. It is a diamond willow with 40 diamonds and hopefully 7 lizard, sea animal and bird heads carved on it. I am hoping for spectacular but the proof will be in the pudding. I have to do most of the work outside and since I started working on it there has been only one day with winds under 20 to 35 mph. I have made two huge messes in my home that took almost as much time to clean up as it took me to make. High hopes for tomorrow because if I reach a point where I can not wait any longer the sanding inside will be a mess that will take me months to clean up and not being a clean up kind of person I may just have to change homes.

I love the use of the twisted vines that you have incorporated into the design. The butterfly is lovely especially as the stones you have used are transparent.
Getting my mind working on my next out of the box designs.
Thanks for showing.
