I packed this little gem away the other day getting ready to move but these words keep going trough my head

What the heck is it?

Anyhow thought it was cute and thought you might like to see it.

OK, my eyeball says Turquoise with a heck of a lot of pyrite.  If it is that, your chunk is worth some heavy change.
The best thing to do would be to take it to a local jeweler who is a certified gemologist and have them run some tests.  They will be able to ascertain if it is turquoise or not.

yeah, have that one looked at by a gemologist. if it is in fact pyrite and turquoise its worth a couple pennies

That's very interesting! the picture looks like turquoise on pyrite. Pyrite dose occur with turquoise here is a piece of Compitos turquoise with pyrite that I have. But it just has small specs in it.

At the Tucson shows this past winter I saw turquoise cabs being sold where over 1/3 of the cab surface was pyrite.  It was breathtaking!  In some areas the pyrite was more like matrix and then in other areas you could make out a crystal structure.  Really friggin neat!   :thumbsup:

Oh how cool it is cute but not sure how to mount it, drill a small hole or epoxy and bail which I don't trust. either way want to keep it natural and not sure if I should shine it up some.

Oh hey I am use to seeing pyrite as squares not soft, smooth and bubbly a neat weather wear and I do believe it is Turquoise compared it with other stuff we have on hand it almost points to sleeping beauty.

I think you are right and once I get to TN I will take it to someone.

Thank you for the info I now know what to research but Enchantra can you remember if they shined and polished it or did they leave it dull.

That's a beautiful little specimen. My vote would be to leave it natural and if used in jewelry use a prong wrap or some other non-invasive mount. I like my nuggets au naturale!  :icon_thumright:

They were cabochons, polished up.
