This was a consignment that I had to do in a hurry, my wife asked me to do this for a breast cancer fund raiser. I think that if I had more time I could of done a little better.

What machine used for carving, a flex shaft ?
still I give me a little afraid these forms . I think the stone can be broken.

I use a dental lathe that I got off of eBay and a flex shaft. I am still learning. I have a little trouble with nephrite jade.  Waves and orange peal   Maybe the Australian carver can help me.
I am working on a dragon head right now but trying to figure out what to do with the eyes.
 If you have a flex shaft just go for it. Start with a slab and do something simple like a carved cab

Carving burrs.  Go to harbor freight and get a set if diamond burrs that way you are not out much $ if you don't like doing it

John,

Nice work.  What is your water setup? Do you just keep dipping the stone to keep it wet as you work or do you have some kind of drip setup?

Here is what I use with my Foredom. A water drip grinding box made by " Hi-Tech Diamond" in Simi Valley, Ca. I added a length of plastic tubing slit down the length, and lined the edges of the hand openings as they are a little sharp.
