Jasper, not jade cuts and polishes like any other jasper. It comes from Gemfield just out of Goldfield Nevada. If anyone wants to see more Nevada rocks I have few
-
That is a really beautiful stone. Is there enough to collect and sell? You could help fund a great lapidary if this is a stone in bulk that is solid!
-
Hey thank, I will go there this year and see if I can find some!
-
It is from Gemfield, a private claim. it is under new ownership and the new owner lives in Goldfield and is able to watch things. I think they charge $.50 a lb but may make a deal on larger quanity. Payment is an honor system. there is several different kind of jasper there. the green you have to work at, a lot of it is fractured and falls apart like weathered opalite. so plan on digging. The bulleye area at one time someone went in there and blasted an area and the rock is badly fractured. my daughter likes green so I made a kitchen knife for her out of it. The color is not as intense as most jade but is still nice.
Orrum, don't you live south of goldfield? Las Vegas area? If you cant make it there let me know I will send you a piece to try out I have more than I will ever use.

How about anouther Nevada rock
This is a price of quartz crystal with actinolite needles it comes from the Hunny crystal mine about an hour away. A fried of mine owns two of the claims. The needles are green it's hard to tell in the picture
-

No I live in NC but I go to Az and parts of the west for the winter. I go to Idaho, Oregon hounding but Nevada is very doable this year because I want to go to Mcdermitt.
-
The caldera out of McDermit is not a place you want to be in the winter. The roads turn into a slimy mess if they get wet. It can get real cold at certain time of year if the ground is frozen you can four wheel drive into there but than you can't dig. If you decide to go I have a map that may help I can email you.
Goldfield can get pretty cold too. Fall and spring are good times to go, not to hot and not to cold

How about Sept or Oct Jhon?
-
That's a good time of year. Weather should be mild

Wonderstone slabs, they r fine grained and incredible patterns!!! I wonder if it wound polish in the Loto because it would be a great display back for arrowheads I knapp? I would have to cut it down the slabs are so pretty I hate to trim them!!!
Lavic jasper slabs, never seen it in person before, sigh, the Lovely Sussn grabbed these too!!! LOL
Nevada Lapis end cut, have to look this up!

Jhon I am a huge fan of rutilated and I love that Quartz piece with the Actinolite needles. I find some great stuff in that part of NV when I make it up there but never Quartz like that. If he sells any I would love to get a slice or 2. I will post a separate topic with the Material I dig in Coaldale.
-
Jhon is very generous I owe him our last trade, I think he believes in rock karma I do, the more I give away it comes back!
-
I will ask him if he has any broken crystals he wants to sell.
-
Great thanks! I have found the same enjoyment of sharing the wealth so to speak. It makes people happy which is cool, better than sitting in a tote or bucket I think.
-
I don't remember all of what I put in that box, I don't think I put any jade in but I may have I was trying to make use of the flat rate and fill it up.
The Nevada Lapis was a mine that they sent tons of rock to china. There is still a lot there but is hard to get to, a long steep walk or an ATV. Glue it to a 2x4 and slab it up I thing you will like the cabs it makes.
I think that you may need an intervention. you got pretty excited over a box of rocks, some people would saw you have a problem and may need some help! addiction .ROCKAHOLIC
-
looks like grossular garnet to me?
-
The two pieces that look like triangle cuts from a sphere are light green snd speckled.
Yes I am addicted and a rock hoarder!!! I wonder if some rock addicts go to AA?
THAT BOX WAS INCREDIBLE JHON!!!
-
it dose lokk a little like garnet but it is jasper
